Professional Background

Chuck began his career using technology with students in 1982 when he started the first computer lab for the Clovis Unified School District at Clovis High School.  Even in those early days, his philosophy regarding computer use in the schools was that computers should be used as tools for learning.  In 1983, he coordinated the District's educational technology program for eight elementary schools, one middle school and one high school.  In 1985 his responsibilities expanded to include the coordination for the use of technology in all schools within the District.  He was honored as the Clovis High Teacher of the Year in 1982 and the Administrator of the Year for the District in 1998.  Chuck has also taught technology classes for Fresno City College; California State University, Fresno; and Fresno Pacific University.

In 1996, Chuck was given the task of planning, developing, implementing and sustaining a program where every student in a classroom would be equipped with a high quality computer for learning.  This was the vison and genesis for the District's Anytime, Anywhere, Anyone Learning program. The program began with 94 parents from three intermediate schools purchasing a laptop for their 7th grade student to use every day in the following classes:  History/Social Science, English, mathematics and science.  The program was successful from the very start with teachers and students embracing their newly found empowerment in the classroom.  Each subsequent year, the program expanded to include the next higher grade level.  It grew by more than 10,000 students during that next decade.  The program is still going strong!  The program was honored as a Golden Bell recipient from the California School Boards Association as a leading program for technology education in the state.

As the Chief Technology Officer for the District, he planned, implemented and directed numerous other technology related initiatives. Some of the more high profile projects included:  professional development training for all staff in the use of technology equipment; installing a fiber-based Metropolitan Area Network linking all school site networks; a PELCO security camera system for all schools and district facilities; a 3-year technology equipment refresh program for all staff; and the District's Data Warehouse for accessing accountability information from the District's Student Information System.  Chuck was honored with the "ComputerWorld Honors Progam" as a "Finalist for Education and Academia" for excellence in technology education in 2006.

Chuck has also been involved in developing another technology related company serving educators--the CVTP (Central Vally Technlogy Program).  This company has been providing professional development opportunities for teachers and administrators for over 21 years.
